Long Time Between Posts

Obviously there’s a long time gap between posts to this blog. It’s not that I have nothing to say, I just don’t have the time to say it. Which is the same as saying this isn’t a high priority. Any more, the way time seems to fly by, it’s hard (impossible?) to take care of the higher priorities. It seems like some higher power has been throwing so many unexpected (definitely unwanted) annoyances in my path that I can’t get to the “normal” demands of making a living (taking care of my clients). Can you just do nothing when the post office loses two weeks of your mail? When your internet connection goes down? When the credit bureaus put incorrect data in your credit file? When the crown on your tooth falls off? Etc.? No, all these things rob a person’s time and, at the end of the day, there’s none left for blogging, for sure.

If anybody reads this blog, I apologize for the infrequency and for the lack of good substantive content dealing with oil and gas issues. I’m working on some strategies I hope will improve the time situation. I really want to put something worthwhile here.

  1. hehehe, people read this blog, just to let you know so that you don’t think that you are doing this for no reason. Actually I was wondering if you would supply some information to a broke college student, or at least point me in the right direction concerning oil and gas law. I know that you probably don’t check this often, but if you get this in the next couple of weeks, email me and we will talk if you have time. Thanks for your time, Jason

  2. Incredible! Thanks, Jason. I don’t know what you mean by “direction concerning oil and gas law”. Where to study it? How to learn it? Where to find jobs involving it? As I’m writing each of those questions, I’m thinking I don’t know the answer to it, even if it is the right question.

As for readers of this blog, well, I don’t analyze the server logs every month like I should but, when I do check them, the vast majority of “visitors” are bots of one sort or another, attempted hacks, and other internet “noise”. The number of apparent hits from machines with a likely human at the helm is next to insignificant; unless things have changed drastically the past couple months. Still, if I’m going to take up space on the internet with this blog, I should at least post something useful once in a while. I’ll try to take your comment as motivation toward that end. Thanks again.

  3. Hey John, another reader here, and funny enough I’m also interested in pursuing a career in O&G Law. I’m a college senior recently admitted to the University of Texas Law School and I’m just looking for any pointers you might know of that could help me out in any way possible. I’m gonna try and get on the Texas Journal of Oil & Gas Law next spring, but I guess I’m most interested in how to go about positioning oneself for a legal career in a practice area as highly specialized as O&G law…

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

  4. Ha ha John!! Believe me I know exactly what you mean when you say “I just don’t have the time to say it”.

I also rarely find enough time to work on my own oil blog (in fact I’m overdue for a post now). Being married, employed a father and trying to enjoy some kind of social life is heavy competition for blog posting. Throw in car trouble and having contractors into the house and it’s a miracle I’ve posted at all.

Interesting blog you have. Good luck with it in the future.

  5. Thanks for dropping by, Chris. Coincidentally, I’ve just recently lost time myself to home and car repairs. I gave up on social life long ago; I think it was the first real casualty of trying to make a living as a solo practitioner. What really amazes me these days is how anybody has time to participate in LinkedIn and Facebook. I opened accounts on them but rarely log in. When I do, I see all these notifications and messages all these other people have posted. Incredible!

I’ll try to take a break sometime and have a look at your blog.

    John
